Planning a holiday road trip from Weston? Before loading the car, hitching up the caravan or heading out for a weekend away, make sure your vehicle is ready for the journey. A log book service helps keep your vehicle maintained to the manufacturer's recommended schedule, identifying potential problems before they turn into unexpected roadside repairs.

At Weston Smash & Service Centre, an independently owned Repco Authorised Service centre in Weston, our team can service your vehicle according to its manufacturer requirements and inspect key components before you travel.

Unusual noises, fluid leaks, sluggish starting, steering vibrations, temperature fluctuations or warning lights can indicate developing mechanical problems. Worn tyres, ageing belts, deteriorating hoses and overdue fluids may also increase the risk of a breakdown, particularly during long trips or when carrying extra passengers and luggage.

Ignoring these signs can allow a relatively minor issue to affect other systems. For example, a coolant leak can lead to engine overheating, while worn tyres can compromise handling and braking performance.

A pre-holiday inspection should complement your scheduled log book service, not replace it. Depending on your vehicle and service requirements, important checks may include:

What Should Be Checked Before You Travel?

Engine oil and filters: Maintain appropriate lubrication and help protect internal engine components.

Coolant, belts and hoses: Check for leaks, deterioration and signs of overheating risk.

Tyres, brakes and suspension: Assess tread, tyre condition, braking performance and steering stability.

Battery and charging system: Reduce the risk of starting problems, particularly on longer journeys.

Lights, wipers and fluids: Help maintain visibility and safe operation in changing weather conditions.

If you're towing a caravan or trailer, your 4WD deserves particular attention. Extra weight places greater demands on the engine, cooling system, transmission, brakes, tyres and suspension. Have the vehicle inspected for towing suitability, and check that your towing setup, load limits and tyre pressures are appropriate. Caravan and trailer tyres, wheel bearings, lights and coupling components also need attention.

Holiday periods are busy for workshops, and service appointments can fill quickly. Book your log book service and pre-travel inspection well in advance to allow time for any necessary repairs, parts ordering or follow-up checks before departure. Leaving it until the last minute could mean postponing your trip or travelling with an unresolved fault.

Did you know? A vehicle can feel perfectly normal to drive while developing a problem with its cooling system, battery or suspension. Preventative inspections can identify some faults before noticeable symptoms appear.

For extra peace of mind, Weston Smash & Service Centre also offers tyre and wheel services, including wheel bearing inspections for caravans and trailers. Wheel bearings help wheels rotate smoothly, and excessive wear or insufficient lubrication can lead to overheating and serious damage.

Get your vehicle holiday-ready with Weston Smash & Service Centre, your local Repco Authorised Service centre in Weston. Book early to give yourself time to address any issues before you hit the road.

Prepare for holiday travel with log book servicing and pre-trip checks at Weston Smash & Service Centre in Weston. Ask about 4WD towing inspections, tyres and caravan wheel bearings.
